If an unofficial nod from Anna Wintour won’t do it, what will? Women’s Wear Daily today announced that the Council of Fashion Designers of America has chosen designer Diane von Furstenberg as its next president.
Most famous for inventing, and re-inventing, the wrap dress, Furstenberg beat out Joseph Abboud to replace Stan Herman at the head of the council.
Several well known designers and editors were “campaigning” for Furstenberg, who said she would not campaign for the job herself but would be happy to accept it. Wintour mentioned the CFDA presidential race in a sprawling feature on Furstenberg in Vogue, lending her support.
DVF should take the helm in October as the face of the CFDA.

I sometimes find the world of natural and botanical skin care a little intimidating. A pumpkin clarifying mask and a moisturizer with algae aren’t my usual fare. I’ll admitt I’m more of a drugstore girl, with a healthy dose of Clarins and Clinique. But for the name of research - and propelled by their appealing packaging and luxurious creams - I was really interested in Clark’s Botanicals.
The AHA Marine Moisture Creme ($45) is great. I really love it - the scent, the texture - very enjoyable for the senses. Clark’s says it’s a unique combination of Alpha-Hydroxyl Acids with Marine Extracts (algae) that makes an effective anti-aging creme. It’s also used to remove sunspots, age spots, skin discoloration inbalances, acne scars and redness. I liked the light texture, and what it did for my skin tone. I don’t really go for the anti-aging creams yet, but this was good for helping acne scars clear more quickly - as well as some poison ivy scars! I also really liked using it as a hand cream at night. I’ve heard so many dermatologists say that you can tell someone’s age by their hands, and I’m really frightened of grandma hands, so I’m all about that.
Clark’s Pumpkin Clarifying Mask ($29) was another favorite. Said to be a potent healing mask with the benefit of Beta Carotene as a strong anti-oxidant derived from Indian medicine for skin impurities, this mask is made for acne or problem skin. I do think that I had a little bit of breaking out when I first started using this mask because of it drawing out impurities, but with regular use it really complemented the cream in improving my overall skin tone. I liked that it had salyctic acid and kaolin, both of which dermatologists have recommended to me.
Trying something a little different can really be fun and pay off when it comes to skin care. I’d recommend Clark’s Botanicals, it’s a great place to find something new to try, no matter your skin type.

See, I told you Sao Paulo fashion week was one to watch. She is on my list of the top 5 designers to keep an eye on.

Who can get Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton (both wearing the same color dress from Prada)
Eva Mendes, Courtney Love, Taryn Manning, Amanda Peet, Nicole Richie, Heather Graham and
Jaclyn Smith all in the same building without a catfight erupting? Miuccia Prada that’s who. There were more notables at her “Waist Down: Skirts by Miuccia Prada” event happening at her store on Rodeo Drive but that would just be taking up posting space. Long story short nobody peed on the floor and there were no catfights.
The exhibit will be open to the public at the Prada Rodeo drive store from July 14 to August 27.
It’s been a long week and Papierblog has your fashion weekend planned out (mixed with some non-fashion goodies as well).
Must See: Time to Leave

This movie from director Francois Ozon is about a young fashion photographer who discovers he has a malignant brain tumor and will die soon. He alienates is boyfriend and other members of his family when he doesn’t tell them about the tumor and the story develops from there. If you are fed up with the blockbuster swashbuckling, superhero, big budget flicks this summer, this is a welcome change of Pace.

Must Do Hooti Couture

We’ve highlighted this vintage gem again, and again, and again. But you really have to head over this weekend. The fall vintage fashions are slowly trickling in and you must beat everyone else to the punch. If you happen not to be in Brooklyn this weekend, give them a call (718-857-1977), they may have something you’ve been looking for.
Must Read: Fashion Wire Daily’s Coverage of Sao Paulo Spring/Summer 07 Fashion Week

Though I wish we could be there, Fashion Wire Daily will be covering Sao Paulo fashion week for the Spring Summer 07 season. I like this fashion week in particular because you get to see the non-traditional, non-standard designers show their wares. You can get your fashion inspiration here instead of where the masses go. Definitely a must read.
Must Buy:Knotted Racer Back Dress by James Perse

The key to the summer is looking relaxed as well as feeling that way. This dress from James Perse says “I’ve managed to do something almost impossible in fashion: look good and be comfortable at the same time…damn it.” It’s available at Eluxury for $135. (one of the only items below $200 at that store by the way)

I’ve actually tried the Caudalie Sauvignon Scrub. It’s good for what the packaging says. It’s a grapefruit based scrub that will give you a smoother feeling skin. Here’s the problem i’ve had with it though: it kind of dries out my skin. Though it’s just natural to moisturize after bathing, I’m wondering whether it would be better simply to use a moisturizing scrub without the alcohol? Any ideas, leave comments.
Wearing something as timeless as a sleek ankle boot gets you a lot of love from me. I was wondering in previous posts (see here and here) if it was too early to talk about boots for the fall. It sure is not. These Delman boots are my new favorite. They’re available now at Bluefly.

Damn right. Madonna is the new covergirl for H&M ads, but she also wears the clothing. Her touring entourage wears them as well. In addition to playing the starring role in the ads, H&M plans to outfit her whole touring crew with everything H&M from their fall line. I’m already seeing things worthy of a pickup.

Samonsite, long known for practicality as opposed to aesthetics, is launching a new line of stylish bags featuring top model Naomi Campbell and several other notables.
